Enterprise Architecture Responsibilities

(what is the value of all this)

1.

Design Authority: Architecture Review Board (ARB)

  • Zayo ARB reviews software architecture to align with organizational goal and provides decision-making basis, ensures consistency, and enables flexibility. It enforces compliance, improves maturity, and supports escalation for out-of-bounds decisions.

  • Decision making: Enterprise-level decisions impact architectures, including approving changes to models and EA principles.  Consistent methods are established for reviewing architectural requests and escalations.

2.

Enterprise Architecture Strategy

The EA Strategy service focuses on defining key themes, goals, and principles to add strategic value. It emphasizes the importance of optimal organizational structure, cross-team collaboration, and clear role demarcation. Change management across EA, alignment with Zayo's global IT model, and tooling considerations are also addressed. A roadmap is outlined for EA transformation, with a focus on synergy with ongoing transformation efforts.

  • What is the value of the EA Strategy Service and who will receive the value?

    • EA Strategy ensures Business and IT alignment for operational efficiency. It aids risk management, cost optimization, and technology adoption to support business transformation.

  • How will the EA Strategy Service be delivered?

    • EA Strategy Service is communicated through models, KDDs, principles. Artifacts updated yearly, quarterly, or with strategic changes.

  • Who will deliver the EA Strategy Service?

    • Enterprise Architects with input from business leaders, Initiative, System & Business Architects and others

  • How will the EA Strategy Service be measured?

    • Alignment Rate, Feedback Score and Adoption Rate of EA Principles, Implementation Rate for organizational changes, Model Coverage Ratio for architectural modeling.

Metrics Summary

  • Key metrics are used to evaluate the Enterprise architecture to ensure business value, some of the key metrics are depicted below in this chart:

Business Value Generation

Demonstrate EA impact on business service improvement in 1 or more:

  • Productivity

  • Efficiency

  • Operating Expense

EA to Business Roadmap Synergy

  • Measure EA services and business services as fully, partially, or not aligned

  • By business capability

  • By quarter

Systems Architecture Coverage

Monitor architecture model completeness

  • Monitor the percentage ofarchitectural systems models completed and current

Initiative Risk Reduction

Monitor the impact on initiatives that had EA involvement or not

  • Monitor the initiative deployment success rates

KDD by Prioritized Initiatives

Monitor the status of KDDs as the Demand Intake process begins:

  • Goal of high closure rate of KDDs success rates

  • Volume of new KDDs found onceDemand Intake begins
